Girlfriend Celebrations - Because Girlfriends Make Life Better

Girlfriend Parties on a Budget

Feeling the pinch these days, ladies? Well, who isn’t? Everyone we know is cutting back on spending. But that’s no reason to stop having fabulous times with your girlfriends. Enjoy a few of our ideas for budget-conscious girls nights. Don’t worry, this one’s on us!

At GirlfriendCelebrations.com, we don’t think you have to be posh to be popular. Since we began this site in 2005, we’ve designed all of our parties to succeed within a wide range of budgets–from dirt-cheap to filthy rich. When it comes to girlfriend celebrations, it’s the company that counts, not the food, drink or decorations. If your girlfriends need to be impressed by where you shop, it’s time to shop for new girlfriends!

OK. That said, here are a few party ideas that are cheaper than most.

Girlfriend Book Swap: One of our most popular parties also costs next to nothing to pull off, since everyone brings a book they already own! Read all the details here.

Girlfriend Prom – Thanks to our girlfriend Lora for sharing this great idea. Everyone has to wear an old bridesmaid or prom dress to your soiree–and recreating the hairstyle to match would be a nice touch. This shouldn’t cost much, since you are wearing dresses already in your closet (attic), bringing out your old prom pictures to share, and maybe dancing to some old tunes–maybe the hits from your senior year?

Pajama Party: Our dear girlfriend Felicia Coley, founder of the Well-Heeled Society blog, has started a new blog that we think is spot-on, titled PennyWisePoshlyFrugal. She points out that when times are tough it still feels good to help others, and suggests an Oprah-inspired party providing pajamas for needy children while you frolic in your own nightwear. Fun fun fun–read all about it here!

Pink Elephant Exchange: Take the traditional White Elephant gift swap and “girlfriend” it up a notch! We originally published this as a holiday party, but you can do it anytime. The details are here. It’s cheap, giggle-inducing entertainment, and everyone will leave with a “new” item.

Potluck Dinner, Pasta Party, or Homemade Soup Supper – Sharing a meal together is an easy, satisfying way to gather with your girlfriends. By going potluck or preparing an inexpensive meal such as pasta or soup, you will win the gratitude of your gal pals. Nothing makes you feel cared for in tough times like a lovingly prepared meal!

One final tip: Set a budget before you start party planning. Buying food, drink and party supplies can be so much fun that before you know it, you’ve blown next week’s gas money. Be creative, stick to your budget, and you can still drive to work next week.

  1. Maximum girlieness makes girls night out different from all other regular celebrations… you can also watch DVD’s of your favorite films… like Thelma and Louise, Pretty Woman or Sex and the City and Absolutely Fabulous. Or if you want you can also ask your friends to bring in their old clothes they might want to get rid of… and display the clothes so that everyone may try them… on and trade… and gather the remaining ones…and why not make a donation … :)
