Create a Tradition–Pass the Basket
Having "signature" items that pass from girlfriend to girlfriend is a tradition that can make your get-togethers feel a little more special. To inject a little more fun into your girl-group vibe, you may want to try this:
Get a big wicker basket and decorate it with a beautiful bow. Also purchase an inexpensive corkscrew. The girlfriend who gets the basket brings it to the next get-together brimming with munchies. The person with the corkscrew brings a special beverage. After the party, pass the basket and corkscrew to different people. This takes some of the burden off the hostess, and creates a sense of excitement when you "pass the basket."

This is such a great idea! I think I may start a tradition similar to this one!

I have five best friends from college, one of the five moved away after college. Since we weren’t able to get together on a regular basis we wanted to be sure it was extra special when we did. So we started a tradition four years ago we call Friends Day. Our friend who moved was going to be back in town for a few days so we dedicated one day for all of us to be together. Here is how the day goes: We each pick one thing or event we would like to do, each person has to pay for everyone to participate in their event, so you can spend as little or as much as you want and will know exactly what you will spend that day. We had one of our mom’s schedule the day to ensure no repeats and it was a secret what we were doing until we got there. Our first year we went out for breakfast, had our nails done, had a picnic lunch in the park, painted ceramics, mini golfed and had a portrait sitting at a local studio. Year two, we each got a sunless tan, went out for lunch, painted picture frames, played a college memories quiz game and went on a scavenger hunt. Year 3 we had breakfast and watched a video of old pictures put to music (each got a copy of the DVD), we went bowling, went through a maze in a cornfield, toured elegant new homes and dressed up in 80’s fashions and went out for supper. Year 4 (this past June) we deviated from the normal routine as our friend who had moved was 7 months preganant with her second child and did not want to travel home. So the other 4 of us surprised her by making the trip to see her. She didn’t know we were coming until she found us sitting on her couch. So we didn’t have a set schedule while we were there but we painted a couple rooms in her house, did some shopping and went out to eat a few times. It was great. I have the best friends in the world and we have vowed to continue this tradition until our kids put us in the same nursing home!
